Capture NX-D is a non-destructive RAW image processing application that utilizes a new sidecar system to save adjustments for Nikon photographers looking to make adjustments to their.NEF or.NRW files. You can open selected images in Capture NX-D to perform image adjustment. This operation is available only when Capture NX-D is installed.

Capture NX-D can only open RAW (NEF, NRW), JPEG, and TIFF image files. If non-supported files are selected at the same time, only the supported images can be opened with Capture NX-D. You can select images in the Photo Tray; however, if you select multiple images and launch Capture NX-D, only the folder that contains the first image will open. Image processing is easy with the simple click of the edit button on the Output Bar, which launches Capture NX-D. Even quickly create contact sheets to print. ViewNX-i is also compatible with Nikon Camera Control Pro 2 software; making post-production workflow smoother when shooting with the camera tethered or wirelessly connected to a computer.

A dialog box appears, prompting you to select either RAW (NEF or NRW format) or JPEG images to open using Capture NX-D.
Select the file format of images that you want to open and click [OK]. You can open coupled RAW (NEF or NRW format) and JPEG images at the same time.

Like any competent image editor, it can convert your raw images to JPEG or TIFF images for full compatibility with other applications and the web; users can specify the end image resolution and other customization options.

For touching up images and changing their parameters, Capture NX-D can apply a number of color corrections, gamma, sharpness, brightness/contrast and a slew of other modifications photographers often make to their final RAW images. The NX-D tool also provides a retouch brush, though it's certainly not as good as the tool provided in Lightroom.

In our final assessment, Nikon Capture NX-D is a tool that's great for Nikon users getting involved in photography at a beginner level to learn the ropes and make some basic image changes to NEF files and export them but it isn't as comprehensive as some other tools which support a wider range of RAW image formats.

Note: This setup package will install Nikon Message Center 2, Nikon Transfer 2, Picture Control Utility 2 and of course the Capture NX-D application.

Capture NX-D can apply special effects to a picture, view EXIF data, optimize graphics and convert RAW to JPG.
